Sameer Rizvi hammered 90 runs from just 51 balls for Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 4, to help them chase down the target of 163 runs in 18.1 overs and secure a big win by 7 wickets over Mumbai Indians
in the IPL 2026 match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. For his super show with the bat in the national capital, Rizvi won the Player Of The Match (POTM) award. The POTM award by Rizvi against MI is his third consecutive POTM award in the IPL. In DC’s last two IPL matches as well, Rizvi bagged the POTM award.
The 22-year-old uncapped batter from Meerut, who joined DC in the IPL 2025 mega auction, is the eighth cricketer in the world to win three back-to-back POTM awards in the IPL.
Jacques Kallis was the first cricketer to win three back-to-back POTM awards in the IPL. He achieved the feat as a Royal Challengers Bengaluru player in 2010. Virender Sehwag (for Delhi Capitals in 2012), Glenn Maxwell (for PBKS in 2014), Aaron Finch (for Gujarat Lions in 2016), Virat Kohli (for RCB in 2016), Jos Buttler (for RR in 2018) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (for CSK in 2020) are the other six players to win three consecutive POTM awards in the IPL.
