White House Shooting: What We Know
President
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were escorted out of the White House event after loud, unidentified noises triggered panic among guests, with several ducking under tables.
According to a White House aide, a freelance photographer reported hearing four to six loud bangs inside the hotel. Initial media reports suggested the presence of a gunman, prompting swift response by security forces.
Guests at the high-profile event were seen panicking as shouts of “Get down, get down!” rang out. Hundreds of the roughly 2,600 attendees hid under tables while Secret Service agents in combat gear ran towards the dining area.
Top cabinet members were safely rescued out of the venue one by one as security took control of the area.
Shooter Taken Into Custody
President Donald Trump confirmed on Truth Social that the alleged shooter had been taken into custody.
“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement”, Trump said on social media.
Without disclosing details, the President said the authorities will take a decision on the matter.
“They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again.”
