Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott shed a few tears during his final press conference as Afghanistan head coach, as the team thrashed Canada by 82 runs to finish an otherwise disappointing T20 World
Cup campaign on a high.
It marked Trott’s final appearance as Afghanistan’s head coach, bringing to a close a three-and-a-half-year tenure. During the press interaction, as he responded to a question about his role, he became emotional, struggling to get his words out as tears welled up in his eyes.
After a brief pause, Trott composed himself and went on to laud the team.
“Well, I just think and I could sit here and tell you so many stories of things that I have seen with my own eyes, but in the talent, yes, I said I did not want to get upset. I just remember my first trip when we were in Ireland and I saw things that made me realise these boys are so talented and focused,” Trott said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
It was an emotional press conference for Jonathan Trott, it shows how profoundly meaningful the experience was for him and how much he loved working with Afghanistan Cricket Team.

“And if you just want to add a little bit of structure to the mindset, professionalism and the high standards that we hold ourselves to, not individuals, but we hold each other to those high standards and professionalism,” Trott added.
“But it is just one of those things. And I remember how chaotic that first tour was and where we are now is chalk and cheese,” Trott said.
It was Trott’s last game at the helm, capping a successful three-year stint during which Afghanistan flourished, highlighted by their run to the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
