A now-viral post on X about an expensive birthday dinner bill has gone viral after a user claimed that a celebration with friends ended up wiping out his bank balance. The post, shared by the online community
CountryGulshan, triggered widespread discussion around restaurant pricing, calculation errors, and fine dining culture.
According to the post, the user had gone out with 16 friends to celebrate a birthday and initially expected the outing to cost somewhere between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000. However, the final amount reportedly came as a major shock.
Sharing his experience online, the user wrote, “Today, while celebrating a birthday party with my friends, my whole bank account got emptied!”
He further explained that before the group started eating, the restaurant manager allegedly asked how many people were attending the dinner. After learning that there were 16 guests, the manager reportedly estimated that the bill would be around Rs 30,000-35,000.
“But when the final bill arrived, it was Rs 56,000!” the user wrote.
The diner also claimed that when he questioned the unusually high amount, the restaurant manager justified it by saying that the dishes ordered by the group were premium and expensive. The user further revealed that he had requested a discount on the bill, but the request was turned down.
According to the post, the manager responded by saying, “This is not a roadside dhaba where we give discounts.”
The user eventually paid the full amount, but ended his post by questioning whether food for 16 people could realistically cost that much.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, sparking debate over the bill amount.
“The rates are quite reasonable. The totals are made up. You are not good at maths. When you are not good at maths, you can neither come up in life nor in your career,” said one user.
Another commented, “Kehna kya chahte ho ?? U have money to spend on birthday and flexing ? Or want free food just because u r a SM influ,”
Some users questioned the calculations shown in the viral post itself.
“Anyone please explain me ye 47,000 kese ho gaya 🙂, sob add karke toh 15k ke karib ho raha hai,” a third user wrote.
“Total is 15000 , give or take a few,” wrote another.
Others felt that the bill amount was expected, considering the group size and the choice of restaurant.
“If you think you wouldn’t pay approx 50k in a fine dine for 16 people then you really never dined out,” another user commented.
“U should check before you feast, No point in crying after the party is over,” said one person.

I thought the total expense would be around ₹20,000–25,000. But the hotel bill shocked me.

Another user turned the conversation towards financial responsibility and budgeting habits.
“If you’re ready to blow Rs 25,000 on a birthday party for your friends, you should either be genuinely wealthy or do not understand basic personal finance. Learn finance or you’ll keep crying about money to strangers on X. 💸😭” the comment read.
