Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid’s younger son Anvay starred for the India U19 side, which is playing an unofficial ODI series against Sri Lanka U19, as he helped his team post a commendable 285 while
batting first.
Opting to bat first, India slipped to 11/2 inside the opening four overs before VK Vineeth and Kushagra Ojha steadied the innings with a 67-run stand for the third wicket.
India soon found themselves at 81/4 in the 19th over, before wicketkeeper Dravid and Arjun Rajput built a 145-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The former struck nine boundaries and a six while Rajput scored 76 runs.
Anvay and Rajput added 145 runs for the fifth wicket to take India to 221 before the latter was caught short of his crease by Dimantha Mahavithana’s throw.
Anvay played with positive intent during his stay at the crease, taking on Chamika Heenatigala with a six and a four off consecutive balls before bringing up his maiden Youth ODI fifty in 47 deliveries.
Dravid was eventually dismissed for 87 by Gimhan Mendis in the 44th over. India were bowled out for 285 four overs later. The latter finished with five wickets for Sri Lanka, as he dismissed Sagar Virk, Yashveer Goud, Anmoljeet Singh and Ishan Sood.
India U19 are leading the three-match series 1-0 after defeating the home team by four wickets in the first game.
On that occasion, the Indian colts chased down a whopping 321 with four deliveries to spare, even though Anvay could only make 14.
Anvay is a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper who had represented India B Under-19s once before this series, featuring against Afghanistan Under-19s in a one-day tri-series at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in November 2025.
The ODIs are being played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota.
The two unofficial Tests, starting July 13, will be played at the Galle Stadium.
