Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced that India has elevated its ties with Slovakia to a Comprehensive Partnership during his historic visit to the European country, saying this reflected the shared
trust, common priorities and a shared vision of the future between the two countries.
PM Modi arrived in Slovakia to a warm welcome on Sunday, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country since its independence in 1993. He held delegation-level talks with his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, in Bratislava on Monday, and the two leaders also visited an art exhibition.
Speaking alongside Fico, Modi expressed gratitude to the Slovak PM, calling him a “true friend of India”. The Prime Minister said Fico’s unwavering commitment has played a significant role in elevating India-Slovakia relations to new heights.

“This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia. I am delighted that on this historic occasion, we have decided to elevate our relations to a Comprehensive Partnership. This symbolises our shared trust, shared priorities, and a shared future,” he said.
Focus On Bilateral Trade,
Prime Minister Modi also said the two leaders discussed in detail expanding their cooperation in bilateral trade. He also thanked Fico for his contribution to the landmark India-European Union (EU) free trade agreement.
“Our potential is vast. Our aspirations are even greater. Automobiles, railways, advanced manufacturing, and green technology are areas of special interest to us. Today, we combined our strengths in all these areas and took several important decisions for the benefit of the people of both countries,” he further said.
Modi further said the agreement between India and Slovakia on digital technology signed today would open up new possibilities for cooperation in digital public infrastructure. He also expressed happiness that an Indian chair on artificial intelligence was established at a Slovakian university.
He also invited Slovakian companies to contribute to India’s development journey and revealed that a Letter of Intent was signed to give new impetus to cooperation in defence and production.
Fico Praises PM Modi For ‘Political Miracle’
Meanwhile, Robert Fico also confirmed elevating the cooperation between India and Slovakia to a comprehensive and strategic collaboration, and called it a “great honour” to welcome PM Modi to Slovakia on his first visit.
He also commended India’s achievements in the fields of digital technology and AI, and congratulated PM Modi for becoming the longest-serving Indian Prime Minister. “This is like a political miracle,” he said.
“I would like to publicly declare that the government of the Republic of Slovakia supports the reform of the United Nations, and we are strongly convinced that countries like India have to be a part of the Security Council of the United Nations as ‘Permanent Member’,” the Slovak PM said.
