The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its digital Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas, allowing eligible residents living near these toll points to get a monthly pass online.
The pass allows local commuters to cross the respective toll plaza multiple times during a month after paying a fixed fee of Rs 350. The facility is available through the Rajmargyatra app.
Who Can Get The Rs 350 Pass?
The facility is meant for residents who live within 20 km of a participating toll plaza. The pass is available for non-commercial vehicles used by eligible local residents. Earlier, people had to visit the toll plaza and submit documents to prove their address and eligibility.
The process has now been made digital, allowing eligible residents to apply through the Rajmargyatra app.
How Does The Digital Pass Work?
The digital system is linked with DigiLocker and VAHAN to verify the information required for the pass. The system checks the resident’s address to establish the 20-km eligibility limit, along with the vehicle details and the FASTag linked to the vehicle.
This means residents no longer need to depend on manual document verification at the toll plaza.
Why Has NHAI Introduced This?
The move is linked to NHAI’s push towards Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF), or barrier-less tolling. Under this system, vehicles can pass through toll points without stopping at a traditional toll booth.
The first digital Local Pass facility was introduced in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza in Delhi. NHAI plans to extend the facility to more toll plazas in the coming months.
Why Do Local Residents Need The Pass?
Barrier-less tolling means there may be no toll booth staff to identify regular local commuters. According to NHAI officials cited by The Indian Express, residents living near such toll plazas accounted for a significant share of e-notices issued for unpaid tolls.
Many local commuters had earlier been able to cross based on their familiarity with toll plaza staff. With the automated system, however, vehicles without the required pass can be identified electronically.
For eligible local residents, having the digital pass linked to FASTag can therefore help avoid such notices.
Which Toll Plazas Are Covered?
The digital Local Pass is currently available at 121 toll plazas across the country. The expanded list includes toll plazas such as Bartana in Haryana, Bharatkund in Uttar Pradesh, Bhramanapalli in Andhra Pradesh, Boothakudi in Tamil Nadu, Chikhalikala in Madhya Pradesh and Devkuli in Bihar, among others.
The complete list of participating toll plazas is available through the Rajmargyatra app.
What If You Live More Than 20 Km Away?
Residents who do not fall within the 20-km radius of one of the participating toll plazas cannot use the digital Local Pass facility meant for local residents.
Those who are eligible but whose toll plaza is not among the 121 covered locations will still need to follow the existing process and visit the concerned toll plaza to obtain a monthly pass.
Local Pass Is Different From FASTag Annual Pass
The Rs 350 Local Pass should not be confused with NHAI’s FASTag Annual Pass.
The Local Pass is specifically for eligible residents living near a particular toll plaza and is valid for that plaza for a month.
The FASTag Annual Pass, meanwhile, is a separate scheme for eligible non-commercial cars, jeeps and vans and is valid across covered National Highway fee plazas. For 2026-27, its price is Rs 3,075.
With the digital Local Pass now available at 121 toll plazas, NHAI is moving towards a system where local commuters can prove their eligibility digitally while toll collection becomes increasingly automated.
