Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was one of the firsts celebrity to step out and vote on Thursday morning for the ongoing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. In a video that surfaced on social
media, Akshay was spotted arriving at the Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan in Juhu to cast his vote.
After casting his vote, Akshay also spoke to the media outside and urged Mumbaikars to come out and vote. “Today is the BMC election, and, as Mumbaikars, this is the day when we have the remote control. Therefore, all the people of Mumbai must come out and vote, rather than complaining later about things not being in good shape. Everyone should vote to elect the right people. If you want to be the real hero of Mumbai, then instead of dialogues, you should come and vote,” he told PTI.

After Akshay, his wife, Twinkle Khanna, was also seen arriving at the polling booth to cast her vote. “I think it gives us a sense of control and power over the narrative. I am voting out of habit and hope,” she said.

For the unversed, Mumbai is voting after nine years to elect its Mayor, on Thursday. Voters will decide representatives across 227 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards, with results expected the next day, on January 16. Polling began at 7.30 am and will conclude at 5.30 pm for all 227 wards in Greater Mumbai. Mumbai has a total of 1,729 candidates are in the fray from the 227 seats. The city has 1,03,44,315 eligible voters — 55,16,707 men, 48,26,509 and 1,077 other gender — across all wards.
