Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana has broken his silence regarding the backlash that the film is receiving for oversexualising Janhvi Kapoor. While neither Janhvi Kapoor nor Ram Charan has addressed the issue,
Buchi Babu Sana has said that the team has taken the backlash seriously. Moreover, the director has also promised to make changes to the problematic scenes in the film.
Buchi Babu Sana wrote on X, “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character.”

He added, “If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize. After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”

He also told SCREEN, “I had not anticipated that the scenes would be perceived so negatively by audiences. The idea was to showcase a playful romance story between Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor.” He said that despite their intention, the final outcome was different. “However, we’ll be more careful and make better representations,” he added.
While the filmmaker has now promised to change the problematic portions of the film, it is unclear by when a new edit of Peddi will be available in the theatres.
