After days of extreme heat and temperatures above 45°C, parts of Gurugram witnessed heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on Thursday, bringing significant relief to residents struggling with the
intense heatwave.
Videos circulating on social media showed dark clouds engulfing the city, heavy showers drenching roads and strong winds sweeping across several sectors of Gurugram. The sudden weather shift led to a noticeable drop in temperature after an oppressive spell of dry heat across Delhi-NCR.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast thunderstorms and rain activity across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and other NCR regions between May 28 and 30 as a western disturbance and moisture inflow impacted north India.
Before the rainfall, Gurugram had been recording severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures touching nearly 44-46°C in recent days.
The IMD has also issued alerts warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorm activity and strong winds reaching up to 60-90 kmph in parts of Haryana, including Gurugram. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during intense weather activity.
Weather officials expect intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity to continue over the next couple of days, which could further reduce temperatures across the region and ease the prolonged heatwave gripping north India.
