The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday condemned the defacement of the Indian Embassy premises in Ljubljana, Slovenia, by what it described as “anti-India elements”.
The ministry said the incident
was unacceptable and stressed that diplomatic missions are protected under the Vienna Convention.
“Under the Vienna Convention, diplomatic premises are inviolable and must be protected,” the MEA said in a statement.
India has strongly raised the matter with Slovenian authorities through its channels in both New Delhi and Ljubljana. The ministry said it expects those responsible for the incident to be identified and held accountable for the “reprehensible acts”.

The MEA also flagged the wider issue of what it described as hateful propaganda and disinformation being circulated by such groups. It called on law enforcement authorities in other jurisdictions to take note of such activities.
The latest incident comes as India has continued to raise concerns over attacks and acts of vandalism targeting its diplomatic missions abroad. In January this year, India had also condemned an incident of trespassing and vandalism at its embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, and sought accountability from Croatian authorities.
The MEA, however, did not provide details in its latest statement about the nature of the defacement in Ljubljana, when it took place, or whether any arrests had been made.
