Power cut and Bengaluru have a friendship that defies time. Bengalureans feel lucky if they know the power outage schedule ahead. Because, most time its unexpected and lasts till the BESCOM decides.
Residents
in several parts of east Bengaluru will face a scheduled power outage tomorrow, January 14, 2026, as BESCOM carries out urgent maintenance work on a key electricity line.
The power shutdown will be in effect from 10 am to 2 pm, affecting multiple neighbourhoods that draw supply from the 66/11 kV Banaswadi substation. According to BESCOM officials, the interruption is necessary to complete maintenance on the 66 kV transmission line, aimed at improving reliability and preventing future breakdowns.
Why the power will be off
BESCOM has said the temporary disruption is part of routine infrastructure upkeep. Engineers will be working on the high-voltage line feeding the Banaswadi substation, a critical node for electricity supply to large parts of east Bengaluru. Officials added that the work has been scheduled during daytime hours to minimise safety risks and allow quicker restoration if required.
Areas likely to be affected
Several residential layouts and commercial stretches across east Bengaluru are expected to see power cuts during the four-hour window. These include HRBR Layout, Kammanahalli Main Road, CMR Road, Babusapalya, Balachandra Layout, Arkavathi Layout, Anjanadri Layout Enclave, Divya Unnathy Layout, Vijayendra Garden, Mallappa Layout, Prakruthi Township, Balaji Layout, Chelekere, Horamavu, Kasturinagar and Ramamurthy Nagar Main Road.
Also, Dodda Banaswadi, B Channasandra, RS Palya, OMBR Layout, Hennur, Hoysala Nagar, Vinayaka Layout, CMR Layout, Brindavan Layout, Ramaiah Layout, Munireddy Layout, Vijaya Bank Colony, Nisarga Colony, Nandanam Colony, P and T Layout, Coconut Grove Layout, Byraveshwara Layout, Chikkanna Layout, Nanjappa Garden, Vijayalakshmi Layout and Trinity Enclave should brace for power cuts.
Neighbouring pockets such as Hennur Cross, Shakti Nagar, Ashirvad Colony, Brindavan Avenue Heritage, Jayanthi Grama, areas around the BDA Complex, Pillareddy Nagar, Ajmallappa Layout and Agara Main Road may also experience intermittent disruptions.
What residents should do
With the outage scheduled during working hours, residents and businesses in the affected zones are advised to plan ahead. Charging phones, laptops and power banks in advance, completing essential online work early, and switching off sensitive appliances before the shutdown can help avoid inconvenience or damage when power is restored.
BESCOM has said supply will be resumed as soon as maintenance is completed, but restoration times may vary depending on ground conditions. Consumers are encouraged to follow BESCOM’s official communication channels for any last-minute changes or early resumption updates.
For many in east Bengaluru, tomorrow’s power cut may mean a temporary pause in routine. For the power utility, it is another round of behind-the-scenes work aimed at keeping the city’s lights on for the long run.
