Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon’s Cocktail 2 is one of the most-awaited films of 2026. Helmed by Homi Adajania, the film is a sequel to Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty’s
hit film, Cocktail. The buzz around the second installment has been immense and fans can’t wait to watch the fresh faces on the big screen. Recently, the makers released the second song Mashooqa featuring Kriti and Shahid. Their sizzling chemistry is being loved by the audience. However, a section of people has accused the makers of copying the tune from a 1993 Italian song titled Se So Arrubate A Nonna.
A Reddit user recently posted clips from Mashooqa alongside the 1993 track, highlighting what they believed were noticeable similarities between the two compositions. The post quickly gained attention, with several users joining the conversation and claiming the tunes sounded nearly identical. One user commented, “Chori karke bhi dull gana banaya pritam ne.” Another user wrote, “Pritam lifting tunes. Somehow I find this to be comforting when the world is changing so fast.” One of the comments also read, “Bollywood copying again?”

However, some users came out in support of composer Pritam and argued that the song may have been inspired through sampling rather than direct copying. One Reddit user explained, “This is called sampling, not stealing/copying. It’s when you take the main beat of a song and layer other instruments over it with changed lyrics. It’s a very popular concept in the music industry. Pitbull, Taylor Swift, Kanye and many more artists also sample songs.”
The original track, Se So Arrubate A Nonna, is a comic Neapolitan song by Italian duo Bibi & Coco, released in 1993 as part of their album Le Origini Vol. 2. Its title loosely translates to “The Kidnapped Grandma” in the local dialect. While the song never achieved mainstream international success, it has continued to enjoy a loyal cult following over the years. Mashooqa has been composed by Pritam, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song is sung by Raghav Chaitanya and Mahmood Ruaa Kayy, while the Italian portions were specially written and performed by Mahmood himself.
Cocktail 2 is all set to hit theatres on June 19.
