Starlink India Latest News: SpaceX-owned Starlink has begun its first round of hiring in India, a key milestone as the Elon Musk-backed company prepares for its satellite broadband debut in the country.
Job postings on the SpaceX careers portal show openings across finance and accounting, including positions such as accounting manager, payments manager, senior treasury analyst and tax manager. All roles are based in Bengaluru, which will function as Starlink’s primary operational base in India.
“As Starlink expands its global footprint to deliver low-latency satellite broadband services worldwide, its Indian subsidiary is looking to hire an accounting manager to oversee financial reporting and compliance,” the company said in one of its listings.
Another posting for the payments role states that the selected candidate will manage end-to-end payments and risk operations, working closely with global teams, with the scope to take on broader responsibilities later. Starlink has made it clear that it will only consider locally based applicants with valid work permits, with no remote or hybrid options on offer.
When Will Starlink Services Be Launched in India?
Starlink has been targeting a late-2025 or early-2026 commercial launch in India and is currently working through security and regulatory requirements.
Earlier this week, the company reportedly demonstrated its satellite broadband network to law-enforcement agencies in Mumbai, enabling checks on lawful interception and other cybersecurity protocols, a key step before the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) allocates spectrum.
SpaceX is also building out ground infrastructure. Officials are likely to inspect three ground stations already set up in Mumbai, which will act as the network’s initial India hub. Starlink has applied to establish gateways in Mumbai, Chennai and Noida, with plans to scale to 9-10 locations including Chandigarh, Kolkata and Lucknow after launch.
As part of its localisation strategy, Starlink has leased a 1,294-sq-ft office in Chandivali, Mumbai. Lease records accessed through Propstack show the agreement, signed on October 14, carries a monthly rent of Rs 3.52 lakh, a 5% annual escalation and a security deposit of Rs 31.7 lakh.
Starlink Price In India
In terms of cost, the one-time Starlink setup fee is expected to be around Rs 30,000 or higher, while monthly subscription plans could start at approximately Rs 3,300. Pricing is also likely to vary depending on the user’s location.
According to reports, Starlink might charge a one-time installation fee between Rs 30,000 and Rs 35,000, and the monthly plans could range from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,200, depending on location and usage. These prices position Starlink as a premium service, potentially accessible to those who can afford higher internet costs for better service quality.
Competition Warming Up
Once commercial services begin, Starlink will compete with Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite. All three have obtained core regulatory approvals but are awaiting final spectrum allocation as the DoT and TRAI finalise pricing and rollout norms.
Meanwhile, Amazon is also stepping up hiring for its Project Kuiper unit in India, awaiting a satcom licence from the DoT and clearance from IN-SPACe. Through Amazon Kuiper Services India Pvt Ltd, the company has recently advertised roles including head of telco business development, go-to-market lead for India and programme leads for enterprise and retail segments.
With Starlink and Kuiper moving in tandem and domestic satcom players scaling up, India’s satellite broadband race is entering its execution phase, with hiring and infrastructure rollout now firmly underway.
