Radhika Apte has been in the industry for 2 decades now, and the actress has always proven her versatility through the different types of roles that she has done. Now, as she completes 20 years in the industry,
Radhika wants to forget her first film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!, which also starred Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Amrita Rao, and Arshad Warsi, among others.
In a recent interaction with India Express, the actress spoke about how she had an awful experience during her first film and blamed the producer Sangeetha Ahir for the disappointing start to her career. “The awful producers didn’t put me up, didn’t pay me. When my mother and I asked them to sign a contract, they said, ‘Arey, even Urmila Matondkar didn’t sign a contract. I don’t know if she signed or not,’ but they treated us horribly. Mahesh Manjrekar was a great guy. That’s why I like to forget my film because the production was awful! And I say it out loud,” Radhika shared.
The actress, who played a supporting role in the film, further continued, and while sharing how she landed the role, said, “I was doing a play called Brain Surgeon. It was a good play. We won an award in a state competition. Mahesh Manjrekar was one of the judges. He called me after the play and said, ‘I want to cast you.’”
Continuing on why she doesn’t count Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! as her first film, she said, “Then I didn’t do a film for a long time. I finished college, and then I went back to films after a long time. So, I don’t really count that as one of the films I did. But yeah, it’s been two decades.”
Radhika Apte’s Upcoming Project
The actor is currently seen in Saali Mohabbat, a psychological thriller that premiered on ZEE5 on December 12, 2025. Directed by Tisca Chopra, the film marks the filmmaker’s entry into feature direction and has already received acclaim at prominent festivals, including the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival. With its moody, atmospheric tone, Saali Mohabbat is being positioned as one of Apte’s most compelling performances in recent years.
