India’s Test captain Shubman Gill is leading Punjab in their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Elite Group B match against Saurashtra. In the match taking place at the Niranjan Shah Stadium C in Rajkot, the 26-year-old
right-handed batter walked out to bat at No. 5 but failed to open his account even. Gill was sent back to the pavilion for a two-ball duck by Parth Bhut on Thursday (January 22).
On the last ball of the 20th over of Punjab’s first innings, Bhut trapped Gill in front of the wickets.
Gill, who made his Test captaincy debut for India on June 20, 2025, against England in Leeds, was the fourth Punjab batter to get out on Thursday (January 22). At the time of his dismissal, Punjab were struggling at 73/4.
Gill, who finished as the highest run getter in Tests in 2025, would like to come up with a big show with the bat for Punjab in the second innings of the ongoing match and help them keep alive their chances of qualifying for the knockouts.
Jadeja in Saurashtra in XI
Apart from Gill, star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is also playing in the ongoing Punjab-Saurashtra match in Rajkot. The 37-year-old cricketer walked out to bat at No. 5 for the Jaydev Unadkat-led side in their first innings but was only able to score 7 runs from six balls. He was sent back to the pavilion by Jass Inder.
On the second ball of the 17th over of Saurashtra’s innings, Harpreet Brar completed Jadeja’s catch.
For Punjab, Harpreet Brar, who represents Punjab Kings in the IPL, picked up six wickets. He finished with figures of 6 for 38 in 18.1 overs, and two Saurashtra batters were sent back to the pavilion by Jass Inder.
