Indian Railways often surprises travellers with services many people don’t even realise exist. While most passengers are familiar with standard coaches, a few trains operate quietly with designs that feel
far removed from the usual experience. One such service recently grabbed attention online after a short video offered a rare look inside.
The clip walks viewers through the interior of a double-decker train, something several users admitted they had never seen before. It highlights how the coach is structured and gives a clear idea of what passengers can expect once they step inside, sparking curiosity among viewers.
What Does The Double-Decker Train Look Like From Outside?
The video opens with a clear shot of a red-and-yellow coach marked “Double Decker.” The man behind the camera introduces it by saying, “This is the Indian Railways’ double-decker train, the Double Decker Express. Let me show you what the interior looks like.” He then walks towards the open sliding door of the train, giving viewers a closer look at the entrance area.
The exterior looks similar to other Indian Railways coaches, but the name painted on the side hints that this one has something different inside.
How Are The Two Decks Arranged Inside?
After stepping inside, the man explains the layout in a simple, easy-to-follow way. He points out that once you enter through the sliding door, the coach splits into two levels, the upper deck and the lower deck, connected by a small staircase leading upward, with another section going downward.
He begins by showing the lower deck, explaining that it has a three-by-two seating arrangement. The camera pans across rows of closely placed green seats, similar to those seen in regular chair car coaches. He then adds that the upper deck mirrors the same setup, briefly showing that it too follows the same three-by-two seating pattern.
What Is The View Like From Inside The Train?
Towards the end of the clip, the man points the camera towards the window on the lower deck. “Look! A double-decker train. And here is the view from the lower deck. The platform looks like you’re right next to it, see?” he says.
The footage shows the platform appearing very close, giving a different visual experience compared to regular coaches. The video ends with him repeating, “This is the Indian Railways’ double-decker train.”
Train Video Sparks Curiosity Online
Shared on October 27 last year, the video has crossed 15.4 million views so far, drawing widespread curiosity and surprise from viewers. Many admitted they were unaware such a train even existed.
One user commented, “We haven’t seen this till date,” while another pointed out, “It has been running between Ahmedabad and Mumbai for many years.” Others shared route details from their own experience, with comments like, “Mumbai to Ahmedabad / Mumbai to Goa,” and “I have travelled in this; it is a great train from Dhanbad to Howrah.”
Several viewers were eager to know more, repeatedly asking about the train’s route. “Is train ka route kya hai?” one asked, while another expressed disbelief, writing, “Ye Bharat Sarkar ki train ho hi nahi sakta.”
India’s Double‑Decker Train: A Quick Look
The Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Double Decker Express is a modern, fully air-conditioned Indian Railways service operating between Mumbai and Ahmedabad six days a week. Covering a distance of about 491 kilometres in roughly six to seven hours, the train features large windows and comfortable seating across both upper and lower decks, with a total capacity of around 1,500 passengers.
Praised for its speed and punctuality, the train has emerged as a successful example of how double-decker services can increase passenger capacity while improving comfort on some of the country’s busiest routes.
