Interestingly, despite being two of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars across generations, Kamal Haasan and Vijay have never shared full-fledged screen space in a film together. Over the years, however, the two actors have publicly praised each other’s work and maintained mutual respect within the industry.
Kamal Haasan himself made a major political entry in 2018 with the launch of his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). Positioning the party as a centrist alternative in Tamil Nadu politics, Kamal contested elections and remained politically active over the years, though MNM struggled to convert its visibility into major electoral success. In 2021, Kamal narrowly lost the Coimbatore South Assembly election, but he continued expanding his political presence and was later elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2025 with support from the DMK alliance.
Meanwhile,Vijay scripted one of the biggest political upsets in Tamil Nadu’s history through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In the 2026 Assembly elections, TVK emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, ending decades of DMK-AIADMK dominance in the state. Though short of the majority mark initially, Vijay secured support from smaller parties and independents before staking claim to form the government. He officially took oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 10. His parents, family and good friend Trisha Krishnan were present at the event.
