With New Year celebrations around the corner, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued strict instructions to the police and concerned departments to ensure that no untoward incidents take place across Bengaluru.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Home Office in Krishna, the CM reviewed preparedness measures and issued a series of firm directives, stressing that women’s safety will remain the top priority.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to take all precautionary measures to protect women during the New Year celebrations. To ensure the safe return of revellers, especially women, he directed authorities to deploy additional BMTC buses even after midnight.
Special vigilance has been ordered in high-footfall areas such as Mahatma Gandhi Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Koramangala, and Indiranagar to prevent overcrowding and mishaps. He also emphasised the effective use of modern technology for surveillance and crowd management.
20,000 Police Personnel to Be Deployed
To maintain law and order, around 20,000 police personnel will be deployed across Bengaluru city. An additional 1,200 police officers will be brought in from other districts. The CM directed officials to deploy more women police personnel and ensure active participation of the ‘Chennamma Force’ alongside women officers to strengthen security arrangements.
Zero Tolerance for Drunk Driving and Drug Activities
CM Siddaramaiah warned that strict and uncompromising action must be taken against miscreants involved in drunken brawls or any other illegal activities. He categorically stated that reckless bike stunts, such as wheeling, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The CM also directed the police to crack down hard on drug-related activities, warning that such offences would not be condoned under any pretext.

To ensure smooth celebrations, the police have set up four control rooms, 78 watchtowers, 164 women help desks, and deployed 55 ambulances across the city. Over the past three days alone, 3,500 cases of drunk driving have been booked. As an additional safety measure, the movement of two-wheelers on 50 flyovers in the city will be restricted on New Year’s night.
