Claims Delhi Police on Thursday debunked all claims about Jantar Mantar being closed to protests, calling the reports false. Delhi Police stated that Jantar Mantar is open and remains an active and authorised
site for peaceful demonstrations.
“Rumors are circulating on social media alleging that Jantar Mantar has been locked or closed for protests. These claims are entirely false, misleading, and devoid of facts,” Delhi Police clarified on X.
“It is officially clarified that Jantar Mantar remains an active and authorized site for peaceful and authorised demonstrations,” it added.
Delhi Police further cited the Supreme Court’s directions and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), stating that Jantar Mantar can accommodate a maximum of 1,000 people for any authorised protest or demonstration.
“This permission is granted by the competent authority upon formal application by the concerned organizers or individual(s), subject to adherence of prescribed terms and conditions,” it said.
“Citizens are strongly advised not to believe or circulate unverified information and to rely strictly on official communications for accurate updates,” it added.

The statement came after reports and social media posts claimed that Jantar Mantar had been closed to future protests, leading to confusion over whether demonstrations would still be allowed at the designated protest site.
Recent Protest At Jantar Mantar
The latest high-profile demonstration at Jantar Mantar was the 37-day protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.
Led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, the agitation drew significant public attention and focused on demands for accountability in the examination process. The group’s primary demand was the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
What began as a sit-in at Jantar Mantar later expanded beyond Delhi. Protesters, including students, parents and activists, held demonstrations in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow and Kolkata, demanding action over the alleged examination paper leak.
