Anil Sharma and Ameesha Patel’s public fallout took place during the release of Gadar 2. She expressed that she felt ‘cheated’ after the climax of the film was changed without her knowledge, as she had
been expecting a more prominent role in the Sunny Deol starrer. Later, Anil, who referred to her as ‘moody’ reacted to her allegations in an interview and said that everyone is entitled to their opinions and that he still considers her to be a part of his family.
During a chat session on X, Ameesha acknowledged their ‘creative differences’ and stated that she would do Gadar 3 only if she’s ‘super excited’ about the script as she was with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. In a podcast with Maniesh Paul, she further claimed that the climax sequence of Gadar 3 was shot without her but she chooses to ‘let bygones be bygones’. At the same time, she added that she’ll do Gadar 3 only if there’s proper paperwork and contractual documents in place.
So, has the duo buried the hatchet? Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, the director says, “My equation with Ameesha is great now. Waqt ke saath saath sab cheezein sahi ho jaati hai. Abhi sab badhiya hai!” But reportedly, another condition laid out by Ameesha was that she’ll sign Gadar 3 only if Tara and Sakeena’s love story forms a key part of the narrative. Quiz him if she’ll be a part of it and Anil states, “Sakeena and Tara are an integral part of Gadar. But we’ll discuss more about her character before the release of Gadar 3.”
The Apne and Hero: The Love Story Of A Spy maker reveals that the script of Gadar 3 has already been written and that fans wouldn’t have to wait too long for the film to hit the screens. “Gadar 3 will definitely get made. We’ve already made a commitment to the audience in the last scene of Gadar 2 where Utkarsh’s (Sharma) character Jeete is told that he’s worthy of joining the army. We ended the film with the message – to be continued,” he tells us.
Anil further spills the beans on when the principal photography of the film is set to start and adds, “But making Gadar 3 will take some time but the audience can be assured that it won’t take another 20 years (laughs). We’re hoping to take it to the floors in the next two years. We’ve already worked on the script. It will focus on the stories of Tara and Jeete.” For the unversed, Gadar 2 released 22 years after its prequel, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Gadar 2, which was released in August 2023, wreaked havoc at the box office and emerged as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year after Jawan, Pathaan and Animal. Recalling the fan frenzy, Anil remarks, “Gadar 2 had released two years back. The advance booking was fantastic. On the evening of August 9, we sold about 20 lakh tickets. I think no other film has been able to create that kind of history of selling two million tickets two days before its release.”
