An Indian traveller recently shared a video about his trip to Europe, showing a side of the continent that many don’t usually see. After saving and planning for months for what he called a “dream Europe trip,”
he posted on Instagram scenes that contrast with the perfect pictures often shared online.
In his video, he pointed out crowded streets, dirty public areas and spots that felt unsafe. He said that while Europe is beautiful, the reality on the ground can feel very different from the images in travel reels and films.
Travel Looks Different Up Close
“Europe is undeniably beautiful. The architecture, the history, the charm, you can’t take that away,” he wrote. “But travelling here right now feels… complicated. Beyond the postcard-perfect streets, there’s visible neglect in many cities. Areas that once felt pristine now feel dirty, chaotic, and at times unsafe.”
He also spoke about the effort needed just to reach Europe. From visa applications to bank statements, cover letters, hotel bookings, and insurance, he questioned whether the process matched the experience. “You go through all of this, hoping for a smooth, enriching experience. And then you ask yourself: was it worth it?”
He clarified that he didn’t intend to dismiss Europe or its culture. He still appreciated the museums, historic sites, and natural beauty he visited. His message was more about seeing the world realistically rather than through idealised images.

Internet Reacts With Mixed Opinions
The video quickly sparked discussion online. Some viewers agreed. A person wrote, “Bang on! Someone needs to ring the bell and open eyes! We have fantasised Europe through Bollywood. Travel makes you humble and grow.”
Another compared Europe to Asia, saying, “Definitely agree with you! Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam are 10x better to travel for various experiences and for better value for money.”
Others disagreed with his view. “I have been to Europe thrice in the last 3 years and this isn’t true for every place. It also depends on the season and time you choose to visit. You have gone during a busy party time. So to brand them this way on just your experience wouldn’t be the entirely right thing because this isn’t how many others experience it,” one person said.
Another noted that judging a country based only on crowded tourist spots can give a false picture. “It’s half-baked info. Of course, the tourist places are very dirty, but can we generalise the beauty of a country by only capital cities, that too based on tourist areas?” an individual added.
Paan Stains In London Spark Backlash Online
In August 2025, a viral video showing red paan and gutka spit stains on streets in Harrow, London, drew criticism and online backlash.
The stains, especially near shops and pavements, led some viewers to blame Indians and migrant communities for the mess, while locals want action to clean up and prevent spitting.
