A case of human trafficking was unearthed at a busy railway junction in eastern Uttar Pradesh after the Railway Protection Force (RPF) rescued six minors, including four girls and two boys, who were allegedly
being taken for child labour.
According to officials, RPF personnel spotted the children standing in a frightened and suspicious manner on platform number four at DDU Junction. On being questioned, their replies raised further suspicion, prompting a detailed inquiry. The children later revealed that they were being taken from Latehar district of Jharkhand to Rajkot in Gujarat, where they were to be made to work at an ice cream factory.
Following the disclosure, the RPF detained a man identified as Krishna Kumar, a resident of Latehar, Jharkhand, who was accompanying the minors. He has been accused of trafficking the children for labour. The accused was subsequently handed over to the Mugalsarai Kotwali police station for further investigation.
All six rescued minors were produced before Child Line and handed over for care and necessary legal procedures.
RPF Inspector Pradeep Kumar Rawat said the accused is currently being interrogated and efforts are on to identify other individuals linked to the trafficking network. Further investigation is underway.
