The wait is nearly over for fans of Peaky Blinders as the explosive new trailer for its upcoming film adaptation drops a gripping preview of what lies ahead. Led by Cillian Murphy, the movie promises a darker,
more intense chapter in Tommy Shelby’s story.
Set to premiere on Netflix on March 20 — with select theatrical screenings beginning March 6 — the film marks Tommy’s long-awaited return to Birmingham and to the empire he once ruled.
Tommy Shelby Faces His Past
The trailer opens on an ominous note, with Tommy being told that he lives in a house haunted by ghosts. The line sets the tone for a story steeped in regret, unfinished business and emotional reckoning.
Rebecca Ferguson’s character accuses Tommy of abandoning not just his kingdom, but also his illegitimate son, Duke Shelby. Played by Barry Keoghan, Duke is portrayed as fearless and fiercely independent — someone who has already begun running the Peaky Blinders operation as if it were 1919 all over again.
One of the trailer’s most powerful moments is Tommy’s first meeting with Duke. The tension is palpable as father and son size each other up, their shared legacy hanging heavily in the air. Duke appears unimpressed by the myth surrounding Tommy Shelby, signalling a clash of generations.
Meanwhile, Ada Shelby, played by Sophie Rundle, warns Tommy about the shifting power dynamics within the family. The old rules no longer apply, and the Shelby empire stands at a crossroads.
A Broken Man Returns To War
Speaking about his character’s state of mind, Cillian Murphy revealed that Tommy is as fractured as ever. According to the actor, Tommy is living in a self-imposed purgatory — neither fully alive nor entirely at peace.
“He’s in this liminal space, not really living, he’s not really dead. He’s ignoring the world, he’s ignoring his family,” Murphy shared, describing a man haunted by both personal loss and political turmoil.
The trailer also teases Tommy’s dramatic walk back into the iconic Garrison Pub, reclaiming the aura of authority that once defined him. But this time, the stakes are higher. Set in the 1940s, against the backdrop of global conflict, the story hints at a larger war — both external and internal.
With a star-studded cast including Tim Roth and Stephen Graham, the film aims to deliver a cinematic send-off worthy of the Shelby name.
