The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday took a sharp swipe at the Congress and accused them of adopting “double standards” over student protests, alleging that the Congress-led Kerala government
has registered cases against thousands of people who participated in demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak while criticising similar police action in BJP-ruled states.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya attacked the Congress while claiming that the Kerala Police had booked nearly 100 people, including rapper Vedan, for participating in a gathering in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). He alleged that those leading the nationwide student movement had remained silent over the action in Kerala.
“Strangely, neither the self-proclaimed “student movement” seems to care. Their outrage appears to be reserved only for BJP/NDA-ruled states and now the Supreme Court too, exposing the hollowness of their claim of being “non-political,” he said in a post on X.

He also targeted Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alleging that they raise student issues only when they can be “weaponised for political gain.”
“And what about Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra? Their hypocrisy is telling. Student issues matter to them only when they can be weaponised for political gain. When similar action takes place in a Congress-ruled state, they simply look the other way. If the concern were genuinely about students, the standards would be the same everywhere, not determined by who is in power,” he added.
Ecohing similar sentiments, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Congress of following “double standards.”
“The Congress has double standards, just like an elephant’s teeth—one set for show and another for eating,” Poonawalla said.
He claimed that while several states had withdrawn cases against peaceful protesters, the Congress government in Kerala had booked nearly 5,000 people. Poonawalla also alleged that the Congress had demanded the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET controversy but had not sought similar action against education ministers in states where paper leak incidents had also been reported.
Additionally, Kerala Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Chief Minister VD Satheesan seeking the unconditional withdrawal of cases registered against those who took part in solidarity protests over the alleged NEET paper leak.
In his letter, In his letter, Vijayan said students, youth, cultural activists and members of the public in Kerala had staged peaceful demonstrations in support of the nationwide agitation against the Centre over the alleged paper leak.
He claimed that nearly 5,000 people had been booked by Kerala police in connection with the protests across the state.
Police in Kochi have registered a case against 100 people, including the manager of rapper Vedan, in connection with an event held in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. According to police, the gathering at Panampilly Nagar was organised without prior permission.
An investigation into the case is underway.
