Kolkata, Oct 8 (PTI) A bomb threat email received by Kolkata airport on Thursday afternoon turned out to be a hoax after security agencies thoroughly searched the premises and found nothing suspicious,
an official said.
The communication claimed that a bomb had been planted inside the airport and could explode at any time, triggering a security alert.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security at the facility, immediately launched a thorough search of the terminal and other areas.
“We received an email in the afternoon about a bomb threat at Kolkata airport. We immediately alerted security officials, and everything in the airport compound was thoroughly checked. Nothing suspicious was found. It was a hoax email,” the official said.
Passengers were moved away from certain areas during the security checks, sources said.
Security agencies have launched an investigation to identify the sender of the email and ascertain its source. PTI PNT NN
