Sometimes, a single gesture says more than a hundred reviews. Amid online noise and sharp opinions, Varun Dhawan received a moment of validation that stood out during the promotions of Border 2. At a recent
pre-release event, a video surfaced showing the wife of Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, the real-life war hero Varun portrays in the film, blessing the actor in public. The clip has since gone viral, striking an emotional chord with viewers. In the video, shared by a paparazzi account on Instagram, Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya’s wife is seen smiling warmly as she blesses Varun by touching his head. Praising his performance, she says, “Tumne bahot badhiya kiya hai. Bahot badhiya, shabbash! Film bahot achi chalegi (You have done a great job, Very good, bravo! Film is going to do really well).” Varun, visibly moved, bends down respectfully and thanks her for the gesture. The moment quickly spread across social media, with many calling it a powerful endorsement that went beyond box office talk. Just days earlier, Varun found himself at the centre of online criticism after a Reddit user shared screenshots of an alleged chat suggesting influencers were being urged to criticise his expressions in the song Ghar Kab Aaoge. Several users had called his performance loud and unnecessary. In Border 2, Varun plays Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, a brave Indian Army officer and Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardee who fought in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War. The role marks a serious turn for the actor, placing him in a story rooted in real events and sacrifice. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and also stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. Border 2 is a follow-up to the 1997 blockbuster Border, directed by J P Dutta. The sequel is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J P Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. Recently, the team launched the recreated song Ghar Kab Aaoge in Jaisalmer. The track has been reworked by Mithoon, with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir. Apart from Sonu Nigam, the song features vocals by Arijit Singh, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh. Based on real-life events from the 1971 war, Border 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on January 23. As debates continue online, the blessing from Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya’s wife has added a deeply human moment to the film’s journey.
