Sam Curran entered his name in the history books on Sunday (January 4) by becoming only the second captain in the world after MS Dhoni to win a final of a T20 tournament (men’s and women’s combined) against
a team which is part of the Mumbai Indians franchise. Curran, who won the Player Of The Tournament award in the 2022 T20 World Cup, scored an unbeaten half-century (74 from 51 balls) on Sunday in Dubai to help Desert Vipers win the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025-26 final against MI Emirates, which was led by Kieron Pollard.
In the title decider, riding on Curran’s captain’s knock, Vipers posted a total of 182/4 in 20 overs after being invited to bat first by Pollard and then bowled MIE for 136 in 18.3 overs to secure a big win by 46 runs.
Since their formation in 2008, five teams (Mumbai Indians, Mumbai Indians Women, MI Emirates, MI Cape Town, and MI New York) owned by the Mumbai Indians franchise have played 15 finals in six competitions (IPL, Champions League, ILT20, SA20, Women’s Premier League, and MLC) and won 13 of them.
