Kolkata’s Park Street is all lit up as Christmas Day approaches. With Christmas Eve expected to draw large crowds, several traffic restrictions have been put in place in order to ensure smooth vehicular
movements and public safety.
On Christmas Eve, i.e., December 24, several restrictions have been put in force on Park Street. Moreover, two-way traffic is prohibited on Park Street before 2 am on Thursday, instead of the usual 10 pm.
On Christmas Day, i.e., December 25, both-way traffic on Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani, Camac Street, Little Russell Street, Lord Sinha Road, Pretoria Street, Hungerford Street and all connecting and feeder roads, except Chowringhee (JL Nehru Road).
As per the traffic advisory, Cathedral Road will be closed for vehicles ‘as and when required’. Park Street (from Chowringhee to Wood Street) and Middleton Street will be closed to traffic tomorrow, i.e., December 25.
Pertinent to note that only Camac Street-bound vehicles will be allowed on Ho Chi Minh Sarani. Similarly, Little Russell Street (Shakespeare Sarani to Russell Street crossing) will be closed to vehicular movement.
Check diversions:
Vehicles moving towards Park Street and AJC Bose Road from Outram Road should take Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Camac Street, Short Street, and Wood Street to reach Park Street or Camac Street and Chowringhee to enter AJC Bose Road.
Similarly, Park Street-bound vehicles from Mayo Road and Chowringhee should enter Kyd Street up to Free School Street, Royd Street up to Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road and turn right onto Park Street.
