Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s upcoming film ‘Alpha’, the first female-led installment of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, created quite a buzz ever since it was announced. While the film was originally slated
to release in December last year, it was reportedly postponed to April 17, 2026, as the VFX of Alpha needed more time. The film has been postponed once again, and YRF has now confirmed a new release date. Alpha is scheduled to hit theatres on July 10. While rumours of a direct OTT release had been circulating on social media, YRF put the speculation to rest, revealing in the official poster that the film will premiere in cinemas.

Fans took to the comments section to express their excitement about the film. “We are all set for the alphaa gurlsss,” wrote one netizen, while another one commented, “Take my money already.” A third comment read, “Eagerly waiting for this film.”
Earlier, a YRF spokesperson dismissed rumours of Alpha’s direct OTT release, and told Variety India, “[That] ‘Alpha’ [is] going to stream directly [is a rumour that] aims at putting a heroine-fronted film in an unflattering light. Yash Raj Films will never put films from its theatrical slate directly to streaming. We are a studio that takes immense pride in making cinematic experiences. ‘Alpha’ is a tentpole movie for the company.”
About Alpha
Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail, known for his involvement in projects such as The Railway Men, Fan, Dhoom 3. A majority of the film has been shot in Kashmir. Bobby Deol is expected to play the main antagonist in the film, who possibly trains Alia’s character before turning into her nemesis.
Fans got a glimpse of Alpha in War 2’s post-credit scene. In the sequence, Bobby Deol made a surprise appearance, marking his official entry into the Spy Universe. The scene showed him stamping the logo of an agency on a young girl’s hand. When the girl asked what it meant, Bobby’s character answered, “Alpha.” He explained that Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and their program’s motto: “The first, the fastest, the strongest.”
This intriguing interaction had fuelled speculation online that the girl might be a younger version of Alia Bhatt’s character in Alpha.
