Star India spinner Varun Chakravarthy was on Sunday, June 21, ruled out of the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, as he continues his rehabilitation from a foot injury that he suffered during
IPL 2026.
Chakravarthy came under scrutiny last month after bowling his full quota of four overs against the Gujarat Titans despite sustaining a hairline fracture in his foot while fielding during an earlier game, according to reports.
Chakravarthy conceded 47 runs in his four overs without picking up a wicket in a do-or-die encounter for KKR. In a game where the stakes were high, he struggled to operate at his usual level and didn’t appear to be at his best with the ball.
“Chakravarthy is in the final stages of his rehab at the BCCI COE following his left foot injury sustained in the TATA IPL 2026. He is ruled out of the T20I series against Ireland,” BCCI said in its statement on Sunday.
In Chakravarthy’s absence, Axar Patel will be India’s leading spinner on the Ireland tour. The Indian cricket team is all set to tour Ireland for a two-match T20I series in Belfast on June 26 and June 28.
After they tour Ireland, the same 16-member Indian team will travel southwest to England for a five-match T20I series scheduled between July 1 and July 11. BCCI, however, didn’t announce if Chakravarthy will be fit in time for the England T20Is.
BCCI had announced the T20I squads for all upcoming assignments on Saturday, June 6. One of the standout inclusions in the team is teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who earned his maiden call-up to the India senior team.
India’s updated squad for Ireland T20Is: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (vc), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prasidh Krishna
