Nearly 64 per cent of Americans are at loggerheads with President Donald Trump’s performance in the ongoing war with Iran, a new Fox News poll revealed, about a month after the U.S. and Israel launched
coordinated strikes against Tehran.
Another poll, conducted by Fox News between March 20 and 23 among 1,001 registered voters, found that only 41 per cent of Americans approved of Trump’s performance, with 59 per cent expressing discontent.
In addition, 47 per cent of respondents said they “strongly disapprove” of the president’s actions, marking his highest level of intense opposition across both terms.
One of the key highlights of the poll is that Trump’s approval among Republicans dropped to 84 percent, down from 92 percent last March.
The development comes amid mounting energy prices, following Iran’s blockade of Strait of Hormuz in the wake of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran.
‘Gone Too Far’
According to the Fox News poll, around 9 in 10 Democrats and about 6 in 10 independents believe the president has “gone too far” with the attacks in Iran.
The survey also shed light on doubts about Trump’s decision-making, with around half of US adults expressing distrust over his choices on the use of military force abroad.
When Will War End?
The war in West Asia has entered its 28th day, and the situation remains volatile in the region. U.S. President Trump on Thursday announced he was once again postponing the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face devastating strikes on its power plants.
Citing progress in talks to end the war, the President said he would now hold off for more than 10 days before targeting energy sites. It was the second time Trump had postponed the deadline.
Several media reports claim otherwise, suggesting the Trump administration is planning to move from the aerial bombing phase to planning ground operations inside Iran.
The US is preparing military plans for a possible “final blow”, which could include both ground forces and a large-scale bombing campaign inside the Iranian territory. These options could be used if diplomatic efforts fail and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
