An image showing what appeared to be a weakened section of a concrete parapet wall on the under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 4 near Anand Nagar on Ghodbunder Highway circulated widely on Wednesday evening,
triggering concern among residents and commuters. The visual prompted fears of a repeat of the LBS Marg Mulund incident earlier this year, raising questions about construction safety.
According to a report in The Times Of India, following the alert, the Thane regional disaster management cell informed Metro authorities, who quickly reached the site and reviewed the structure.
Officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) clarified that the portion in question had already been secured. They explained that the apparent gap visible from the outside was only superficial and did not impact the structural performance of the parapet.
According to the officials, the supporting stitch work for the parapet has been completed and the structure is safe.
Breakthrough In Laxmi Nagar Station Land Acquisition
In a key development for Metro Line 4, the MMRDA has acquired a 16,762 sqm land parcel for the long-delayed Laxmi Nagar station in Vikhroli, marking the final pending station on the corridor after a six-year delay.
According to a report in The Indian Express, all other stations along the 32.32-km route have already been constructed. The newly acquired site will be used to build the station, an adjoining viaduct, and an access road. While construction has yet to begin, preliminary surveys are currently underway.
Officials added that land acquisition for the corridor is almost complete, with only a small 200 sqm plot in Bhandup still pending for a high-tension tower, expected to be resolved within a month.
