Actor Rhea Chakraborty left Sushant Singh Rajput’s Bandra apartment six days before his death and was not manipulative or involved in any abetment, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded in its
closure report on the 2020 case. The agency said there was no evidence to suggest that Rhea Chakraborty or any of the accused illegally confined, threatened or abetted Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide.
The CBI report, submitted earlier this year, effectively clears Rhea Chakraborty and her family of all charges filed by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh who had accused them of abetment, criminal conspiracy and financial fraud. However, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family called the report “an eyewash,” saying they will challenge it in court.
Here’s what CBI said in its closure report on the case:
1. Rhea Left Sushant’s Flat On June 8
The CBI report confirmed that Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty left Sushant Singh Rajput’s Bandra flat on June 8, 2020 and did not visit him afterward.
“None of the accused persons stayed or lived with him between June 8 and June 14,” the report said. The two had no conversations after Rhea Chakraborty left, except for a single WhatsApp exchange between Showik Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput on June 10.
2. Sushant’s Sister Stayed With Him Till June 12
The report states that Meetu Singh, Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister, stayed with him from June 8 to June 12, shortly before his death. His manager Shruti Modi, cited in the FIR, had not visited his home since February that year due to a leg injury.
3. No Evidence Of Theft Or Embezzlement
On allegations that Rhea Chakraborty took Sushant Singh Rajput’s belongings, the CBI found that she only took her Apple laptop and wristwatch, both gifts from the actor.
“No evidence suggests any property being taken dishonestly or without Sushant’s knowledge,” the report noted.
4. Rhea Chakraborty Was Part Of Sushant’s ‘Family’
The report highlights that the couple had been in a live-in relationship since April 2019 and that Sushant Singh Rajput himself described Rhea Chakraborty as “part of the family.” Expenses related to her were handled by Sushant Singh Rajput’s accountant and lawyer on his instructions and thus did not amount to cheating or financial coercion.
“Evidence doesn’t indicate any movable property being delivered to Rhea by inducing or deceiving Sushant,” the agency said.
5. No Proof Of Threat Or Abetment
The report dismissed claims that Rhea Chakraborty threatened Sushant Singh Rajput or provoked him to take his life.
“The only allegation is that Sushant told his family Rhea had threatened to reveal his medical records0 this is in the realm of hearsay,” the report clarified. The agency concluded there was no immediate provocation or abetment leading to suicide and no illegal confinement or restraint.
