The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially joined Snapchat, becoming the latest government body to expand its presence on a platform dominated by Gen Z users.
The move comes days after Prime
Minister Narendra Modi reportedly asked ministers to strengthen their outreach to young Indians and follows recent discussions around Gen Z’s growing influence in public discourse after youth-led protests grabbed national attention.
Announcing the move, MEA’s official X account shared the ministry’s new Snapchat presence, signalling an effort to communicate with younger audiences through a platform known for disappearing messages, AR filters and Stories.

The internet, however, had plenty to say.
One of the most viral reactions read, “one protest by genz and this is the result.”
Another user joked, “Gen Z effect. Soon babus will be making GRWM reels.”
The memes kept coming. One comment read, “abki baar, 400 streak paar 🥵🔥,” while another simply declared, “Gen Z outreach is going STRONGGG.”
Not everyone was sarcastic. Some users appreciated the move, with one writing, “Well atleast they are trying now…it’s a big step in a way🙌.” Another remarked, “Government is learning fast.”
Others hoped the platform wouldn’t lose its youthful appeal. One comment read, “Please don’t bring the boomer crowd along with you there now.”
Some, meanwhile, admitted they weren’t the target audience at all. “Snapchat? Never used it even once in my life,” one user wrote.
Rahul Gandhi Starts ‘Ask Me Anything’ On Instagram
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late-night reels on Instagram to connect better with GenZ, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has launched an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram, inviting students and Gen Z users to interact with him directly.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Students, Gen-Z – I’m here to listen. Ask me anything on Instagram, and I’ll answer as many questions as I can,” while sharing a link to his Instagram Stories where users can submit questions. The move comes amid a broader effort by political leaders across party lines to strengthen their connect with Gen Z, particularly through Instagram and youth-centric messaging.
