The release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge has transformed PVR multiplexes across Delhi-NCR into realms of barely controlled anarchy with house full boards, police deployment, technical malfunctions, and record-breaking
advance bookings proclaiming one of the largest debuts the capital has ever seen.
PVR locations in Dwarka, Gurgaon and North Delhi reported sold-out morning shows from the first hour of release, with premium IMAX and Dolby auditoriums disappearing within minutes of windows opening. Over four lakh tickets were sold out by March 18 for paid preview screenings alone, leading trade analysts to refer to the wave as a “tsunami.”
Sky-High Prices and Sky-High Demand
Despite the excitement for the Aditya Dhar film, opening-day screenings were not without incident. Several Delhi-NCR venues had delays due to technical issues, including claims that a film copy had not been downloaded in time, leading to heated altercations in the lobby. Select Citywalk PVR drew particular attention after an Instagram user filmed the resulting brawl, which drew police presence and went viral within hours.
“The ticket was for Rs.1900 and the show was for 10 minutes at 7pm. And they have booked so much that the show has not even started at 5.30pm. The police and everything have come. It’s so crazy,” an Instagram user said in a viral video.
“There is a fight going on here, literally. Select City’s management is very bad. They had thought of PVR and all. We will see it well in IMAX … And do you know what excuse they are giving? That the movie has not been downloaded,” the user added.
The video shows the general public making chaos outside the PVR as authorities were trying to control the crowd. According to the clip, the 7 pm show finally started at 10 pm.
