Priyanka Chopra is among the most successful Indian actors who has not only established herself in Hindi cinema but also in Hollywood. She has represented India on several global platforms and has diversified
her career over the years. However, when Priyanka was first trying to make it in Hollywood, many people told her manager, Anjula Acharia, that it was a “stupid move”.
Anjula recently appeared on The Ok Sweetie Show and recalled, “People told me I was stupid when I brought Priyanka. Everyone was like, ‘You can’t break a brown Bollywood star in America.’ I went to Jimmy (Lovine, cofounder of Interscope Records) because we had signed her together through a label deal… I was having one of my insecure moments. There weren’t very many, and I was like, ‘Jimmy, people are saying that I’m crazy’, and he goes, ‘Do you know everyone thought I was crazy when I wanted to launch a white rapper whose name was Eminem?’”
Recently, Ricky Kej also took to social media and expressed how Priyanka Chopra isn’t celebrated enough in India. Ricky Kej wrote, “My Opinion: The one actor in India who we do not celebrate enough is @priyankachopra. She is the ONLY Indian actor (of any generation) who has truly made waves in Hollywood and globally (After being one of the most sought after in India for many years).”
He added, “She has starred with giants like Edris Alba, Dwayne Johnson, Keanu Reeves, Karl Urban, Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci, Will Ferrell, Anthony Mackie, John Cena, Pedro Pascal… And the list goes on! She plays actual mainstream roles, and not some vague character who is ‘exotic Indian’. Widely recognised as a great actor who can perform any kind of a role – action, comedy, drama. She is an ambassador with UNICEF and gives back to society. Let’s all wish her the best for her upcoming movie #TheBluff on @netflix.”
On the work front, Priyanka Chopra has an exciting slate of projects lined up. She will be seen in SS Rajamouli’s ambitious film Varanasi, starring alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Priyanka plays Mandakini, while Mahesh essays the role of Rudhra and Prithviraj portrays Kumbha. The film is slated for a Sankranti 2027 release and will mark Priyanka’s Telugu cinema debut.
She will also return for the second season of the web series Citadel and headline The Bluff, where she plays a 19th-century Caribbean pirate opposite Karl Urban. Priyanka was last seen in the action thriller Heads of State, co-starring Idris Elba and John Cena.
