Director Nelson Dilipkumar, who is currently busy with the much-awaited Jailer 2, has once again grabbed attention. And this time, the buzz is surrounding his next project, with fresh reports suggesting
that actor Suriya could headline the filmmaker’s upcoming venture.
According to 123 Telugu, in 2025 producer Naga Vamsi confirmed that Nelson would direct a film under their banner. Following this news, it was speculated that Jr NTR will headline the project. However, there has been no official announcement regarding the cast. But, now fresh rumours suggest that Nelson’s next venture after Jailer 2 could feature Suriya instead of Jr NTR. While the reports remain unverified.
Suriya’s work front
The actor has been enjoying a successful run with his recent released film, Karuppu. Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu recently began streaming on Amazon Prime Video from June 12. The film is available in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, while the Telugu version has been released under the title Veerabhadrudu. He will be next seen in Vishwanath & Sons. The film is set to hit theatres worldwide on August 14, 2026, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend. The teaser runs for 1 minute and 44 seconds and introduces Suriya as Sanjay Vishwanath. He plays an international pistol-shooting champion in his 40s who is trying to make a comeback. The clip shows him representing India and winning matches. His life starts to change when he meets a young woman named Maddy, played by Mamitha Baiju. At first, Sanjay and Maddy share a mentor-student bond. But things take a turn when Maddy develops feelings for him. This leaves Sanjay confused and unsure about what to do next. The film is expected to touch on topics like age gaps and how society looks at such relationships. The teaser ends with a surprising moment, where Sanjay is seen holding a baby.
Jr NTR’s work front
He is currently gearing up for Dragon. The first glimpse of Dragon was unveiled ahead of Jr NTR’s birthday. The teaser introduced him as “Luger,” a fierce assassin operating in a violent world shaped by narcotics, crime and political unrest. Set in 1967, the story unfolds against the backdrop of the Golden Triangle and the international opium trade, and appears to blend period drama with action on a massive scale.
Apart from Jr NTR, the film also stars Anil Kapoor, Biju Menon, Rukmini Vasanth, Khushbu Sundar, Guru Somasundaram, Rajeev Kanakala, Ashutosh Rana, Anshuman Pushkar, Sidhant Gupta, Prabhas Srinu, Shatru, Shiva, bhimal Jeet Oberoi, Ntuthuzelo prince Grootboom, Aleksandr Mizev, Benedict Paul Garrett.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, Dragon will star NTR in the lead. The film is made under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts. The film is set to release in 5 languages on June 11, 2027.
