Former West Indies cricketer and eminent commentator Ian Bishop had to apologise to Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, as the latter couldn’t hear a word from Bishop during the toss, as the noisy
Chepauk crowd greeted Gaikwad with their cheers.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl in Match 7 of IPL 2026. When it was Gaikwad’s turn to speak, the Chepauk crowd erupted, prompting both him and Bishop to share a hearty laugh.
The reception was so loud that Gaikwad and Bishop could not hear each other, leading the latter to step closer and stand beside Gaikwad. Their conversation only got underway a few seconds later, once the crowd’s roar had subsided.
Crowd went Crazy for Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. 🤩💛

“I don’t know. I don’t know how long. Let me come closer. I apologise to the cameras. I am sorry this is dragging on because of the noise and the cheering. I am sorry for not being able to hear you and for dragging this on,” Bishop said at the toss.
For their clash against the Punjab Kings, Chennai made a single change, replacing Matthew Short with Prashant Veer. The five-time champions, having lost their opener to the Rajasthan Royals, will be eager to bounce back.
At the toss, Gaikwad explained his decision to open the batting with Sanju Samson. Before IPL 2026 started, the former had confirmed this plan, permitting Ayush Mhatre to slot in at No. 3.
“That has been the key for CSK as a franchise. You know, having that good top order. And I think opening partnerships has been a key factor in our recent success in the winning seasons as well,” Gaikwad said.
