Actress Mouni Roy, who starred in numerous television shows for many years, made her Bollywood film debut with the 2018 film ‘Gold’. Post that, she played Junoon in Ayan Mukerji’s 2022 film ‘Brahmastra’,
starring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. While fans were hoping to see the actress in several big, mainstream theatrical films post Brahmastra, the transition did not quite materialize. Mouni Roy recently opened up about this, revealing that while she expected many opportunities to follow post Brahmastra, it did not happen. She also revealed that she realized her name wasn’t even being mentioned in many key casting conversations.
Mouni Roy Reflects On Her Career Post Brahmastra
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter India, Mouni Roy said, “I have sat and dwelt on it. After Brahmastra, I thought a lot more opportunities would come my way. And it didn’t happen. One thing I realised was that my name wasn’t being taken in a lot of rooms. There could be different reasons for that but that’s okay, because the inflow of work never stopped. I have done three shows on Hotstar (Sultan of Delhi, Showtime, Salaakar). I did Temptation Island. I was judging reality shows. I was dancing and doing songs. My schedule was packed; it wasn’t like I was sitting at home with no work.”
She further added that she didn’t let that affect her, and that she firmly believes no one gets anything before their time. “So it’s pointless to worry. I can’t lose perspective of what I have achieved, of all the doors that God has opened for me. To be sad would be ungrateful. Usko naashukree kehte hain,” she added.
Mouni Roy On Casting Process
When asked why she thought her name wasn’t taken in a lot of rooms, she explained that in film projects, actors are always the ‘last in the food chain’. First, the script is finalized, then the production house and makers come in the picture, after which the money and logistics are sorted. “In the meantime, the director and the casting agent are considering a lot of actors who they think are fitting the bill. And unfortunately, if they can’t visualise you for a part, you won’t even receive a call for a look test or a meeting. What do you do? It’s something that is not in your hands,” she said.
