Yet another story of a food delivery rider being subjected to disrespect and mistreatment by a riled-up customer has emerged on the Indian social media. In the latest incident, a food delivery person was
reportedly lambasted by an angry woman as she felt miffed over his late arrival and the missing part of her order for the cold coffee and sandwich.
A post shared online claimed that the customer vented her frustration over the poor delivery guy for skipping the sandwich in the order and bringing only the cold coffee. While the woman suspected that the delivery guy ate her sandwich, in his defence the man said: “the restaurant didn’t give me any sandwich.”
‘Disrespect Over A Single Cold Coffee’
An account on X, formerly known as Twitter, claimed that the conversation between the delivery rider and the customer unfolded as such:
Rider: “Ma’am, your order.”
Customer: “Does it take this long to bring a cold coffee and a sandwich? I ordered an hour ago.”
Rider: “Ma’am, I came as soon as the restaurant handed me the order.”
Customer: “Where is the sandwich? Did you eat it?”
Rider: “Ma’am, the restaurant didn’t give me any sandwich.”
Customer: “Who do you think you are to talk like that?”
Rider: “Ma’am, let’s not talk about status. If status really mattered, we wouldn’t be surviving on your Rs 144 order.”
Just imagine the level of disrespect over a single cold coffee. 😳
Rider: Ma'am, your order.
Customer: Does it take this long to bring a cold coffee and a sandwich? I ordered an hour ago.
Rider: Ma'am, I came as soon as the restaurant handed me the order.

According to the post, the food delivery guy got late as the restaurant took longer to prepare the order and missed the sandwich the customer had ordered. But even as he pleaded innocence in the matter, the woman accused him of eating the sandwich and ignored his efforts to calm down the situation by reinforcing her class and status. The person sharing the post felt appalled at the “level of disrespect over a single cold coffee.”
‘Drink It Yourself’
As the back and forth continued, the customer got angrier with the delivery rider and ended up throwing the cold coffee away while yelling, “Drink it yourself.”
The post unveiling the back and forth between the delivery guy and the customer caught widespread attention online as people reflected upon the incident and gave their opinions on it.
“Respect should always be there. No delivery worker deserves to be insulted for doing his job,” mentioned a person.
Someone else opined, “How people treat service workers reveals their real character.”
“No order is worth humiliating someone. Delivery workers face long hours and tough conditions just to serve customers,” commented one user.
No order is indeed worth disrespecting and subjecting a hardworking delivery rider to such humiliation. The customer perhaps crossed the line in her response to what appeared like a mistake at the restaurant’s end in first preparing the order late and then skipping the sandwich in the package.
