Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor is gearing up for the release of her upcoming neo-noir thriller series ‘Brown’. She recently opened up about her decision-making process when it comes to choosing roles,
revealing that she often turns down projects at first if they do not immediately excite her. The actor shared insights into her experience with the web series Brown, explaining how she initially turned it down, but eventually became a project she strongly connected with.
Karisma Kapoor Reveals Why She Initially Rejected ‘Brown’
While speaking with Bollywood Hungama, Karisma recalled that the offer for Brown came to her while she was occupied with a shoot at Mehboob Studios. Representatives from Zee Studios approached her with the concept, presenting it as a prominent series that required an extended shooting schedule in Kolkata. At first, she felt the project did not align with her expectations and politely declined, confident that it was not the right fit for her.
“Honestly, just something interesting. It should excite you to go on the set again. For me that’s the thing. Like with Brown, I’ll tell you an interesting story. That first I said no. I do that fairly often. But I remember I was shooting in Mehboob Studio for an ad, and the Zee Studios team had come. They were like this is an amazing show, headlining show, it’s shot in Kolkata for 50-60 days. I was like ‘That’s not me. I am not going. Okay, bye bye. Thank you for coming,’” recalled Karisma.
Karisma Kapoor Reveals She Agreed To Meet The Team Of Brown Again
However, the team remained persistent and requested a detailed discussion later in the day. Though she initially resisted the idea, she eventually agreed to meet them again. “They kept waiting. I was like ‘Guys please guys can you all leave?’ And they were so insistent. They were like just give us 20 minutes. Can we have a private meeting after today? I know today you are saying no. And then I met Abhinay and the team again and when they explained the character of Rita Brown and this show, and the way it was going to be filmed. And the way it was imagined I was like ‘Okay this is something I have not done. And this is something exciting to work on, to go on set,” she said.

Karisma Kapoor is finally set to return to streaming with Brown. The series, which had been announced a few years ago and was selected for the Berlinale Series Market in 2023, is now ready for its premiere on ZEE5, and will release on June 5. The series revolves around a ritual murder, a city full of buried secrets and a troubled cop battling her own demons while trying to uncover Kolkata’s darkest truth.
With Brown, Karisma Kapoor will be seen in an acting project after nearly two years. Her last release was Netflix’s Murder Mubarak. Although the actor is often seen as a judge on reality shows, she has remained selective about films and web series in recent years.
Brown will mark Karisma’s second OTT series. She had earlier made her web series debut with Mentalhood in 2020, which received a positive response from viewers.
