Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s 3 Idiots, released in 2009, remains one of the most loved and impactful films to date. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the coming-of-age drama
struck a chord with audiences across generations for its refreshing take on the education system, friendship, and the pursuit of passion over societal expectations. Packed with memorable performances, iconic dialogues, and soulful music, the film continues to enjoy immense rewatch value. Fans have long been awaiting a sequel, and recent reports about 3 Idiots 2 have only heightened the excitement. Now, Aamir himself has confirmed the second installment, revealing that the story will follow Rancho, Farhan, and Raju a decade later.
While speaking to Amar Ujala, Aamir Khan shared details about the sequel. He revealed that he has heard the story and it’s “wonderful.” The actor said, “Raju is working on 3 Idiots 2 right now. I’ve heard the story and it’s wonderful.” Aamir further added, “The script still needs some work, but the story itself is really good — unusual, with the same humour as the first film. It follows the characters from 3 Idiots, picking up 10 years later.”
Aamir expressed his excitement about playing Phunsukh Wangdu again. He said, “It’s a beautiful story conceived by Raju and Abhijat. I’m looking forward to it, and to playing Phunsukh Wangdu again.”
Aamir was all set to reunite with Rajkumar Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke. However, the actor has confirmed that the film has been put on hold due to script issues. Meanwhile, Aamir is also rumoured to be playing Ashneer Grover in his biopic. Recently, several reports surfaced about the project, stating that the superstar has expressed interest. The film will reportedly also feature Shraddha Kapoor as the female lead, and will be helmed by her beau, Rahul Mody. However, the official announcement is yet to be made.
Currently, Aamir is busy promoting his son Junaid Khan’s film, Ek Din. Also starring Sai Pallavi, the film is slated to release on May 1.
