Russian President Vladimir Putin left India on Sunday afternoon after attending the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, ending his two-day visit.
Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday ahead of the two-day summit,
which is being hosted by India under its 2026 BRICS chairship. The summit brought together leaders of BRICS member states and partner countries at Bharat Mandapam.
During his visit, Putin held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders discussed issues concerning India-Russia relations, with trade and economic cooperation among the key areas on the agenda.
Putin last visited India in December 2025, but the two leaders met earlier this month at a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan.
Putin also participated in the BRICS summit alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other leaders. The summit resulted in a joint declaration calling for restraint amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and stressing diplomacy and dialogue to resolve international disputes.
Putin Slams West’s ‘Colonial Mindset’ At BRICS
Russian President Putin used the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday to criticise what he called the “colonial mindset” of Western powers, accusing them of opposing the rise of a more multipolar world.
“Those used to the colonial mindset are resisting the emergence of a multipolar world,” Putin said at the summit, claiming that some countries were unwilling to accept the emergence of new centres of global influence.
He also criticised what he described as attempts to divide the world into a “beautiful garden” and a “savage jungle”.
