Amid the suspense surrounding the release of Jana Nayagan, it has now been reported that the makers of Thalapathy Vijay-starrer are eying a Republic Day release for their movie, if it gets clearance from
the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Madras High Court is scheduled to hear the case on January 20, and if the verdict goes in favour of KVN Productions, they are likely to release the film on January 26.
As reported by India Today, the makers of Jana Nayagan are confident that a national holiday will be ‘lucrative’ and might help the film’s box office. It will be interesting to see if the makers will opt for a Monday release on Republic Day or will go for a regular Friday release. It all depends on the court hearing on January 20.
For the unversed, Jana Nayagan continues to struggle to get a clearance from the CBFC. Earlier this week, after the Madras High Court put a stay on a single judge’s order to grant clearance to the film, the makers of the movie moved the Supreme Court against the stay. However, on January 15, SC also asked KVN Productions to approach the division bench of the High Court instead.
Jana Nayagan was supposed to hit theatres on January 9 but was then postponed due to certification issues. “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control,” the makers announced earlier this month.
“We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team,” the statement added.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain. The film has been heavily marketed as Vijay’s final cinematic outing before his full-time foray into politics, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.
