Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, experienced widespread service disruptions across India on Wednesday evening, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector. Thousands of users reported difficulties
accessing their feeds, loading posts and opening links shared on the platform.
By 8:17 pm, Downdetector had recorded 1,227 outage reports from users across the country. The numbers climbed rapidly, crossing 4,500 reports by 8:30 pm IST, reflecting a sharp spike in complaints within minutes. The surge suggested a significant disruption affecting a large number of users at the same time.
Users said that while notifications and alerts from X continued to arrive, they were unable to refresh their timelines or load new content. Many attempting to reload the website encountered the error message: “Something went wrong, try again.” On the mobile application, users reported seeing the message: “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.” Screenshots shared online showed Downdetector’s outage graph mirroring the increase in reports.
The disruption appeared to affect both web and mobile users, although the impact varied across accounts and regions.
Is Outage Limited To India?
At present, there is no clear confirmation on the geographic scope of the outage. As of the latest updates, X has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption or outlining when services will be fully restored.
When Will X Work Normally?
Users are awaiting clarification from the company regarding the nature of the technical issue and any steps being taken to resolve it. The platform, which rebranded from Twitter after being acquired by Elon Musk, has experienced intermittent outages in the past, though most have typically been resolved within hours.
