Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra on Monday said that the cruise service planned for the Yamuna River in the national capital is close to completion.
In a post on social media, Mishra said he inspected
the construction of the cruise vessel in Mumbai and added that it would soon be brought to Delhi for operations on the Yamuna. He shared images from the inspection, saying the project is in its final stages.
“The cruise is almost ready to arrive at the Yamuna in Delhi. Today, I inspected the cruise construction in Mumbai; soon, this cruise will sail on the Yamuna River,” he wrote in a post on X.
According to an official statement, the initiative is designed to offer a new eco-friendly tourism experience on the Yamuna while also improving short-distance river connectivity for residents and visitors. The project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.
The cruise being developed by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is along a 6–7 km round-trip corridor between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. The stretch falls under National Waterway-110, which runs from Delhi’s Jagatpur to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

The planned cruise corridor will operate using electric-solar hybrid boats with a capacity of 30 to 40 passengers. Safety features such as life jackets and public announcement systems will be provided. Two floating jetties with a capacity of 50 passengers each have already been installed at Sonia Vihar, while additional onshore facilities are planned, said the official statement.
Earlier in November, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena; and Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra reviewed the progress of the Yamuna Boat Tourism and Ferry Infrastructure Development Project.
After reviewing the on-ground progress, Sonowal had said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable and modern waterways.
“Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s waterways have witnessed a transformational revival after decades of neglect. Eco-friendly cruise tourism on the Yamuna is a major milestone, paving the way for cleaner, greener and more efficient water transport that will boost connectivity and tourism in the heart of Delhi,” he stated.
