All is well?
Batting superstar Virat Kohli seems to have reactivated his Instagram account following a brief pause that left his fans worried. The former India captain is one of the most followed personalities
on the social media platform, boasting over 274 million followers—the third highest among athletes behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
On Friday morning, worried fans wondered why Kohli, one of the greatest batters to have played the game, had disappeared from Instagram. While few expressed concerns about the former India captain’s well-being, others offered hilarious explanations.
For now, Kohli is back on Instagram, but there’s no official word on why his account wasn’t visible.
Kohli Maintains Distance From Social Media
Last year, social media users wondered why Kohli’s social media feed of late was only about brand collaborations, especially in light of India’s historic triumph at the 2025 Champions Trophy. Unlike other India cricketers, Kohli chose not to share his joy via social media, with fans labelling his account as “Times Square Of Instagram”.
Later, Kohli opened up on why he had stopped sharing updates from his personal and professional life.
Kohli said that him posting about the Champions Trophy would not alter the reality that India had won the title, nor would it double the trophy count. He then admitted that doomscrolling can be “distracting”.
“Technology, when not attached to a goal, can be quite distracting. It is something I have experienced in my playing career. Luckily, I grew up in a time when you didn’t have this thing in your pocket (smartphone). It is much easier to keep it on the side,” he said.
Kohli has retired from Tests and T20Is and now only plays ODIs for India. However, he’s still active in IPL where he will be back representing defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His next international appearance will be during India’s white-ball tour of England later this year.
