Mohanlal and Mammootty are reuniting after many years for Patriot, a spy thriller. The film, which also stars Nayanthara along with others, is one of the most-awaited ones. Recently, in an interview, Mammootty opened
up about his relationship with Mohanlal. He shared that working with Drishyam actor is like a routine despite a gap.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Mammootty opened up about the experience of working with Mohanlal again for the film Patriot. “It was normal, nothing special about it,” he said, talking about their first day of filming in Colombo. “We are normal human beings, close friends,” he was quoted saying. He also talked about his friendship and character in the film. “The two hooligans coming from two sides and shaking hands cannot be because we’re playing friends, it is an entirely different kind of role,” referring to their characters and respective backgrounds within the narrative.

While the reunion of the two legends is the biggest highlight, Patriot goes several notches higher with its ensemble. The film also features Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara and Revathy in key roles. The trailer hints that each character has a substantial presence, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative rather than functioning as mere supporting parts. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, known for acclaimed films like Take Off, C U Soon and Malik, Patriot appears to lean into a realistic and tightly woven spy thriller space. The visuals suggest a multi-layered story set across locations, driven by tension and political undertones.
A Reunion Years In The Making
The last time the two megastars appeared together in a full-length film was Twenty 20 (2008). Mohanlal later made a cameo in Mammootty’s Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (2013), but Patriot marks their full-fledged reunion after more than a decade.
Release Date
Patriot is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2026. With its powerhouse cast and strong early buzz, the film is expected to emerge as one of the biggest releases of the year.
