A young employee took to Reddit to share a screenshot with their boss asking them to join the office despite battling a family crisis, marking another example of workplace insensitivity.
In their Reddit
post, the employee said they had started working in the organisation as a fresher in January and had been working sincerely since their first day by taking no unplanned leaves, excess breaks and delivering strong performance.
However, when the employee faced back-to-back family emergencies and sought leave, the manager failed to understand the emotional toll of the employee and asked them to come to work, ignoring the urgency of the situation.

The employee shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation with their manager, where they apologised for missing a call and explained the situation, saying, “Actually, our baby is in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and will be under observation for next 24 hours. I will not be able to come tomorrow as well!”
In response, the manager replied with “okay, beta” and “thanks for updating”. However, in the very next message, she said, “But if there is any possibility to come tomorrow, then please try for it.”
“Zero unplanned leaves, no break exceeds, on point performance and this is what I get in return when I needed to be eased! I just lost my grandmother few days back and had my niece on 30th August! She is premature and needed to be put under observation today! BTW my reporting manager is a woman!” the employee said on Reddit.
“I am done with this place and now goin to look for other opportunities as soon as I can!!” the employee further said.
The employee’s ordeal struck a chord with netizens, who criticised the manager for her insensitivity towards an employee’s family crisis. “What even will happen if someone misses a deadline? Nothing. Focus on your wife and kid,” a user said.
